Even as the DTPC and district administration wait for a direction from the government to demolish the Mazhavil restaurant built on the floodline of Periyar, the Aluv Municipality has identified 37 constructions on the northern bank of the river, some of which, according to officials, are encroachments.
The Aluva municipal secretary made a quick survey in this regard on the recent orders of district collector P.I. Sheik Pareeth, who is also the DTPC chairman. But Pareeth appears to be at a loss how to resolve the Mazhavil restaurant issue created by one of his predecessors. The collector is awaiting the direction from the government and also the directive of the Supreme Court on DTPC’s review petition in this regard.
